Lawrence's late goal delivers victory over Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team scored with less than two minutes remaining Monday to pull out a 3-2 nonconference win over Lakeland University at Taylor Field.

Jawad Weleidat scored with 1:49 remaining to break a 2-2 tie and give the Vikings their second consecutive victory.

Weleidat got the scoring started in the 20th minute when he gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead off a pass from Will Nichols. Lakeland tied it a few minutes later, but Brendan Vellenga gave Lawrence a 2-1 lead with his first collegiate goal at the 33:18 mark.

Lakeland tied it at 2-2 just 48 seconds into the second half, and the score remained that way until the final two minutes.

Hunter Lanton made five saves to pick up the win for Lawrence. Tyson Carter stopped six shots for the Muskies.
