Currie scores twice as Vikings clip Finlandia

Box Score

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's soccer standout Zach Currie scored a pair of first-half goals Tuesday to lead the Vikings to a 2-1 nonconference victory over Finlandia University on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Currie scored in the first minute and then added a goal in the 24th minute to give the Vikings all the offense they would need.

Currie jumped on Finlandia immediately as he took a through ball from Nicholas Jatta and smacked it into the back of the net just 34 seconds into the match.

The Vikings struck again at the 23:39 mark as Mark Todd started the attack with a pass to Jatta, who went up the right sideline. Finlandia goalkeeper Noah Raisanen came off his line and Jatta got past him and crossed the ball to Currie, who deposited it into the empty net for a 2-0 lead.

Finlandia got a goal from Zach Wichman at 28:53, and the Lions' only other scoring chance came late in the match. A shot was cleared off the goal line by a Lawrence defender to help preserve the win.

Lawrence goalkeeper Hunter Lanton played the first 72:10 to pick up the win. He made one save, and Evan Ney played the final 17:50 and also made a save. Raisanen stopped nine shots for the Lions.
