First-half flurry pushes Lawrence past Eagles

Box Score

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team scored three goals in a span of 3:26 in the first half Wednesday and went on to a 3-1 nonconference victory over Edgewood College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Zachary Currie scored twice and Julien Riviere added the other goal for the Vikings (3-3-0). Hunter Lanton made four saves to pick up the victory for Lawrence.

The Vikings got on the board at the 20:19 mark when Julien Riviere rocketed in a rebound off a save by Edgewood goalkeeper Brendon Martin. When Martin couldn't corral the shot of Jack Morrissey, Riviere was there to knock in the rebound for a 1-0 lead.

Currie then scored his first goal exactly two minutes later when Martin misplayed a ball that was played back to him by one of his defenders. Currie pounced on the ball and scored for a 2-0 lead.

Currie made it 3-0 at the 23:44 mark when he took a corner kick from Morrissey and his header beat Martin for a three-goal edge.

Martin finished with five saves for the Eagles, who had a 14-11 edge in shots for the match.

Brian Root scored for the Eagles in the 81st minute, but Edgewood was unable to draw any closer.
