Berglin wins all-conference, Newcomer of the Year awards

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University baseball standout Quinn Berglin has earned a pair of awards from the Midwest Conference.
Berglin (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) was chosen for the All-Midwest Conference North Division team and was selected as Newcomer of the Year.
A rookie first baseman/pitcher, Berglin hit .344 for the season and .337 in Midwest Conference play. Berglin was a big power bat in the middle of the Lawrence lineup as he pounded out nine doubles and eight homers, one shy of tying the school season record. He finished with 34 runs batted in over the 34-game season and scored 30 runs.
Berglin went 44-for-128 on the season and collected 12 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 performance against Knox College. Berglin drove in a season-best three runs three different times.
In 24 Midwest Conference games, Berglin hit .337 as he went 31-for-92. Berglin smacked four doubles and six homers while driving in 26 runs and scoring 18 times. He was especially good in scoring situations as Berglin hit .500 (14-28) with runners in scoring position and .423 (22-52) with runners on base.
Berglin also saw action on the mound and made six appearances, including five in conference play, all in relief. He posted a 2-1 record with two saves while striking out 10 and walking six in 8.2 innings.
Berglin is Lawrence's first first-year player to be named to the all-conference team since Matthew Holliday earned the first of his four all-conference selections in 2015. Berglin was one four first-year players chosen among the 14-member team.
Lawrence finished the season with a 15-19 overall record, and the 15 wins ties for the third-most in school history. Lawrence more than tripled its win total from its last full season of 2019 when the team finished with five victories.
On the offensive side, Lawrence finished with a school-record 17 triples in 2021, and the pitching staff recorded a school-record 228 strikeouts. Lawrence also posted top-three numbers for home runs (22), stolen bases (71), runs scored (231), RBIs (207), walks (139) and fielding percentage (.948).
