Vikings go unbeaten at Lawrence Duals

    APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University fencing teams got the season off to a strong start Sunday by going unbeaten at the Lawrence Duals at the Buchanan Kiewit Wellness Center.
    The Lawrence men and women both went 6-0 in a double round-robin against three club teams from the Midwest.
    The Lawrence men defeated the University of Wisconsin 24-3 and 23-4. The Vikings topped the University of Iowa 27-0 and 26-1. Lawrence also downed the combined Marquette University/UW-Whitewater team 22-5 and 24-3.
    On the women's side, Lawrence topped Wisconsin 27-0 and 24-3. The Vikings downed Iowa 27-0 and 27-0. Lawrence stopped Marquette/Whitewater 26-1 and 26-1. 
    Multiple individuals went unbeaten on the day, and a pair of first-year fencers led the way. On the men's team, rookie Jack Kropp went 15-0 in epee, and women's rookie Hannah Bugeja went 14-0 in foil.
    Sophia Kelley also posted a 14-0 record in foil, and Iris Pierce rounded out the women's foil contingent with a 13-1 mark. Nora Anderson and Sophia Lewis were both 8-0 in epee, and Eleanor Seelaus was 7-1. 
    Kropp was joined in epee by fellow rookie Dominick Vaccaro, who posted a 14-1 mark, and Archer Prochazka with a 9-3 record. Rookie Mateo Wilkins made his debut with an 11-0 mark to lead the foil contingent. Thomas Craley went unbeaten in foil at 5-0 with Eli Levitas-Goren was 7-2, Will Martin was 6-1 and rookie Vinicius Alonso de Paula was 6-2.
    The saber contingent was strong with rookie Cristobal Perez Fourcade going 10-0. Jordan Diacos was perfect with a 9-0 record in saber while Donovin Brown went 8-0 and Eli Freyre de Andrade was 7-0.
    Lawrence returns to action on Dec. 7 at the Brandeis Invitational.
