GRINNELL, Iowa -- Lawrence University's
Jackson Bertman was named Diver of the Year for the second straight year, and both teams grabbed fourth place at the Midwest Conference Championships on Sunday at Osgood Pool.
  Bertman won the league award after winning the 1-meter diving competition on Friday with a record-setting performance and narrowly missing out on the title on the 3-meter board. The Lawrence sophomore finished with a score of 392.65, just 0.55 points behind Grinnell College's Toby Frick, who finished at 393.20.
  Led by Bertman, the Vikings finished fourth in the team standings with 290 points. The Grinnell men took the title with 987.5 points.

Michael Thorson placed in a pair of events Sunday for the Vikings. Thorson was seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:21.79, and he then took seventh in the 200 backstroke in 2:00.20.Â

Will Phillips grabbed sixth in the 100 freestyle in 47.29 seconds, and
Aaron Harris was eighth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.64.
  The men's 400 freestyle relay team of Thorson, Phillips,
Keegan Mencke and
Sebastian Stacey swam to fifth place in 3:15.93.
  Irina Starostin was again the top finisher for the Lawrence women on Sunday. Starostin grabbed third place in the 100 freestyle in 53.65 seconds. The other top individual finisher for the Vikings was Kiran Jayasinghe, who took seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 40.38 seconds.
  The 400 freestyle relay team of Starostin, Jayasinghe, Stella Macfarlane and Abigail Herrick placed fifth in 3:48.50.
  The Lawrence women finished with 248 points, good for fourth place. Grinnell won the team title with 864 points.
