STEVENS POINT, Wis. --
Fanta Jatta rallied for a stirring victory at No. 5 singles Thursday to lead the Lawrence University women's tennis team in a nonconference match at UW-Stevens Point.
The Pointers defeated a short-handed Lawrence squad 7-2 at SentryWorld. The Vikings were playing without three of their regular starters, including No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles player
Chloe Lamb.
Jatta won the opening set 6-1 against Morgan Milan at No. 5 singles, but Milan came back to win the second set 6-1 and force a super-tiebreaker. The super-tiebreaker went to 9-9 before Jatta grabbed the next two points to post an 11-9 victory and claim the match.
Lawrence's other win came at No. 2 doubles with the team of
Claire Bildsten and
Maddie Bublik. Bildsten and Bublik battled to 7-7 and then took the tiebreaker 7-4 to snatch the victory from Emma Rockweiler and Jenna Carmean.
