Freeman, Berglin sweep MWC weekly baseball awards

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team swept the Midwest Conference weekly awards after the Vikings went 3-0 this past week.
Taylor Freeman (Missouri City, Texas/Houston Christian) was chosen as Player of the Week, and Quinn Berglin (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) was named Pitcher of the Week.
A junior second baseman, Freeman hit .700 over the three games with five home runs and nine runs batted in. Freeman went 7-for-10 and all seven hits went for extra bases with the five homers and a pair of doubles.
Freeman walked three times and was hit by a pitch to post a .786 on-base percentage, and that translated into an astounding 3.186 OPS. Freeman also was 2-for-2 on stolen bases and handled all 14 chances in the field flawlessly.
Freeman went 4-for-4 and tied the Lawrence record with three home runs in a 21-5 victory over the University of Olivet. Freeman drove in six runs and scored four against Olivet. He tied the homer record held by current teammate Edan Perez (2023), Kevin Fitzsimmons (2006), Elliot Stith (1994) and Steve Blomberg (1972).
Freeman is hitting .476 on the season with five homers, 12 runs scored and 11 runs batted in.
This is the third Player of the Week award for Freeman, who was honored once in 2022 and once in 2023.
Berglin, a senior, earned the fourth Pitcher of the Week honor of his career. He was chosen twice in 2023 and once in 2022.
Berglin earned his first win of the season after making the start and tossing five innings of one-hit baseball in a 16-6 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College. Berglin allowed only a third-inning single while striking out eight and walking two.
Berglin is 1-0 on the season with a 3.00 earned run average. He has struck out 12 and walked three this season while limiting opponents to a .125 batting average.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings travel to Millikin University for a nonconference doubleheader.
