APPLETON, Wis. -- Four Lawrence University baseball players, led by
Jacob Charon, have been named to the D3baseball.com All-America team.
Charon was a first-team selection, and
Parker Knoll was named to the fourth team.
Edan Perez and
Quinn Berglin both made the fifth team.
Charon (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic) made the D3baseball.com for the first time after earning second-team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association in 2022. He is the second player in Lawrence history to be a first-team All-American and joins catcher Bill Simon, who was a first-teamer in 1978.
A senior right fielder, Charon was chosen as Region 9 Player of the Year on Tuesday after putting together a spectacular season at the plate.Â
Charon, who earned his second Midwest Conference Player of the Year award in 2024, is third in all of NCAA Division III with a .468 batting average. He posted a .570 on-base percentage to go with an .851 slugging percentage for a stunning 1.421 OPS on the season. Charon piled up 13 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs and tied his own season record with 61 runs batted in. He also broke Knoll's school season hits record with 72. He ranks 14th in the nation at 1.49 RBIs per game and is 23rd with 0.34 home runs per game.
Charon was twice named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week this season and was chosen as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III Hitter of the Week following a stretch that saw him hit for the cycle against Knox College and post a .619 batting average over six games. Charon also picked up Midwest Conference Player of the Week honors twice during the season.
Charon's name is all over the top of multiple Lawrence career statistical categories. He is second with a .384 batting average and ranks first with a .736 slugging percentage. He ranks first in runs (161), first in hits (208), first in homers (45) and first in RBIs (195). Charon ranks second in doubles (39), second in walks (88) and fourth in triples (8).Â
This is the first All-America honor for Knoll (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), one of the top defensive center fielders in the nation. Knoll, a junior who was a first-team All-Region 9 selection, hit .393 on the season with 12 doubles, one triple and a team-best 16 home runs. He drove in 54 runs while scoring a team-best 68 runs.
Knoll leads all of NCAA Division III at 1.62 runs scored per game. Knoll also proved to be a major threat on the bases with 21 steals during the campaign. A three-time all-region selection, Knoll put together a .488 on-base percentage to go with a .762 slugging percentage for a 1.250 OPS.
Also a standout defender, Knoll made the spectacular play seem routine in center field. He recorded a number of diving catches, including two in one contest against Illinois College, and made multiple long runs to catch balls in the gaps that looked like they were destined for extra bases. A three-time All-Midwest Conference selection, Knoll is already Lawrence's career leader with 170 runs scored and 77 stolen bases and ranks in the top five in numerous other categories.
Berglin (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) earned his first All-America selection after an outstanding season on the mound. The senior pitcher was a first-team all-region pick this season and earned four all-region selections during his career.
Berglin, who is headed to Rutgers University next year for graduate school and to play baseball in the Big Ten, put together a 9-0 record on his way to being named the Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second time in his career. He broke Lawrence's season wins record with the 9-0 mark to top the eight wins posted by Lawrence Hall of Famer John Bill in 1978. Berglin finished 14th in all of NCAA Division III with nine wins and was one of just six pitchers in the country to win at least nine games with no losses. He finished second on the school's career list with 20 wins and has a Lawrence record three shutouts.Â
A four-time Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week in 2024, Berglin compiled the second-lowest season earned run average of his career at 2.16 over 66.2 innings. He finished his career as the Lawrence leader with a 2.65 ERA. He struck out a school-record 79, breaking the mark of 73 set by Aaron Sorenson back in 2004, against just 20 walks. Berglin, who finished second on the Lawrence career list with 187 strikeouts, struck out a career-high 12 this season against Simpson College.Â
Perez (Manteno, Ill./Manteno), a junior outfielder/third baseman, put together his second consecutive spectacular season. This is the first All-America selection for Perez, who was chosen for the All-Region 9 team for the second straight year.Â
Perez, also a two-time, first-team all-conference selection, hit .400 for the season and has now hit .400 or better for two straight seasons. He pounded out 12 doubles, two triples, 14 homers and drove in 57 runs. The 57 RBIs is the second-highest season total in Lawrence history, and Perez matched his career high with seven RBIs in a win over Ripon College. He finished the season swinging a big bat as he homered in seven of Lawrence's final 14 games, and he had a three-game streak in which he homered once in each contest. Â
Perez ranks 25th in the nation at 0.33 home runs per game and is 29th at 1.36 RBIs per contest. Perez ranks second to Charon on Lawrence's career home run list with 29.
This marks the most All-America selections in a season for the Lawrence, which had never had more than one player chosen in a season. The Vikings set a school record for victories in 2024 with a 31-11 record and captured their second Midwest Conference championship in three seasons.
