Vikings fall late to Foresters

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University (1-4-0, 0-3-0) fell to Lake Forest College (1-3-1, 1-2-0), 8-5, at home despite scoring two power-play goals. The Foresters secured the win with a strong third period, netting four goals.

The first period opened with Lawrence dominating the faceoff circle, winning several early draws, and generating multiple shooting opportunities. Despite their efforts, including a series of shots by Jayden Jensen and Ethan Johnson, Lake Forest's goaltender, Luke Szyszka, kept the puck out of the net. The Foresters capitalized on their chances when Trevor Faucher scored at 5:58, assisted by Philip Quetell and Colin Bella, to take a 1–0 lead. The Vikings continued to press but could not find an equalizer before the period ended.

Lake Forest struck early in the second period with a goal by Faucher just 10 seconds in, assisted by Quetell, extending their lead to 2–0. Quetell then added another goal at 16:06, assisted by Bella, pushing the visitors ahead 3–0. Lawrence responded quickly, with Roman Cherniak scoring at 15:49, narrowing the gap to 3–1. The home team continued to press, and Johnson capitalized on a penalty kill with a short-handed goal at 12:40, assisted by Luke Robertson, bringing the score to 3–2. Johnson then tied the game at 3–3 with a power-play goal at 8:28, assisted by Ethan Look. However, Lake Forest regained the lead at 4:02 with a goal by Jax Schauer, assisted by Bella, ending the period with a 4–3 advantage.

Lake Forest secured a decisive victory in the third period, beginning with Will Shephard's goal at 14:48, assisted by Chase Freiermuth and Schauer, pushing their lead to 5–3. The Vikings responded promptly with Look's goal at 14:28, assisted by Evan Izenstark, tightening the score to 5–4. Cody Brekke later equalized for Lawrence on a power-play goal at 8:12, with assists from Look and Johnson. However, Quetell's goal at 3:09 regained the lead for Lake Forest, marking the game-winning goal. Logan Kittleson and Max Jaldung added empty-net goals, sealing an 8–5 victory for the Foresters.
