DUBUQUE, Iowa -- A short-handed Lawrence University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 nonconference decision on Saturday to the University of Dubuque at the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center.
Lawrence, playing without three starters, picked up wins at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles and forced two more singles matches to a third-set super-tiebreaker.
 Â
Benjamin Hoppe was an impressive winner for the Vikings (6-6) as he routed Pedwar Castillo 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Hoppe also teamed with
Andrew Larson for a 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, but the Spartans claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
Larson played a tough No. 1 singles match as he won the opening set 6-3 before Gavin Murrie took the second set 6-4. Murrie then won the super-tiebreaker 10-6. It was a similar match at No. 3 where Lawrence's
Owen Horton posted a 6-4 win in the opening set against Jake Wallrichs. Wallrichs won the second set 6-2 and then pulled out a 12-10 win in the super-tiebreaker for the Spartans.
