WINONA, Minn. — Lawrence University defeated Saint Mary's University 8-1 on Saturday at the Winona Tennis Center. The Vikings secured the victory by sweeping all three doubles matches and winning five of the six singles contests.
Lawrence University secured the doubles point with dominating performances at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Gabriel Garcia and
Will Lewis achieved a commanding 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, while
David Rothman and
Will Phillips mirrored their success with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. The match at No. 1 doubles involving
William Reichen and
Benjamin Hoppe was left unfinished with the score at 7-5.
In singles play, the Vikings continued their strong showing. Reichen delivered a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Garcia followed suit with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Lewis contributed with a 6-2, 6-4 result, and
Owen Horton added a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Phillips rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles. Despite a tightly contested match at No. 2 singles, Hoppe fell 5-7, 3-6.
