Hilton Head Island, S.C. — The Lawrence University men's tennis team faced a strong DePauw University squad on Tuesday, falling 7-0 in nonconference action during its spring break trip.
DePauw claimed the early advantage by sweeping doubles play to secure the opening point. At No. 1, Benjamin Hoppe and Gabriel Garcia fell 6-2 to Viktor Ronnberg and Wils Warren. The No. 2 pair of Owen Horton and Will Phillips dropped a 6-1 decision to Jaxcen Hummel and Filippo Fassone, while Will Lewis and Jonathan Myszka were defeated 6-1 at No. 3 by Paul Castleman and Ikkei Oguma.
In singles play, the Tigers continued their momentum across the lineup with straight-set victories in all six flights.
At the top spot, Hoppe faced Castleman and dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Garcia competed at No. 2 and showed early resistance, picking up four games in the opening set before falling 6-4, 6-1 to Will Hutchinson.
Horton battled at No. 3 but was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Fassone, while Phillips fell 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 match against Warren.
At No. 5, Lewis picked up a game in the opening set before falling 6-1, 6-0 to Hummel, and Myszka rounded out the lineup at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Oguma.
