Vikings drop pair at St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. -- The St. Norbert College softball team made a big defensive play to complete a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Lawrence University on Wednesday at Miron Construction Field.

St. Norbert took the opener 5-0 and won the nightcap 5-3.

In the second game, the Vikings trailed by two with two outs in the top of the seventh. Madeline MacLean singled and pinch-runner Rachel Urich was inserted. Kori Looker followed with a double, and Urich was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

MacLean paced Lawrence's 12-hit attack in the nightcap by going 3-for-4. Looker, Amanda Karnatz and Lexi Angemi all collected two hits for the Vikings (12-16, 3-9 MWC).

Amanda Diedrich went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and drove in three runs for St. Norbert (13-11, 11-1).

Emma Molenhouse worked the final four innings to get the win. Emilia Jackson allowed eight hits and only two earned runs and took the loss.

In the opener, Molenhouse tossed a five-hit shutout for the Green Knights. She struck out three and walked one.

St. Norbert scored all five runs in the third inning off MacLean, who took the loss.
