Grinnell sweeps doubleheader from Vikings

GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Grinnell College softball team picked up a walk-off win in the nightcap Sunday after taking the opener of a Midwest Conference doubleheader from Lawrence University.

Grinnell won the first game 12-4 in six innings and took the nightcap 6-5.

In the second game, Kori Looker, Ceara Larson and Lexi Angemi all went 2-for-4, and Maria Reiter drove in a pair of runs for Lawrence (8-18, 2-8 MWC).

Lawrence scored all five of its runs in the second inning with Reiter smacking a two-run single and Angemi picking up a run-scoring single. 

Grinnell (21-6, 10-2) trailed 5-3 but added single runs in the third and fifth to tie the game at 5-5. The Pioneers then rallied again in the seventh as Darice Wheeler led off the inning with a triple. She scored on Mya Davis' sacrifice fly for the walk-off win.

Wheeler threw 1.1 innings of relief to get the win, and Emilia Jackson went the distance and took the loss.

In the opener, Lawrence led 1-0 after Amanda Karnatz's run-scoring double in the third. Grinnell scored four times in the bottom of the third and added six more runs in the fourth to take a 10-3 lead.

Karnatz went 4-for-4 for the Vikings.

Maggie Remus allowed nine hits over six innings to get the win, and Madeline MacLean took the loss.
