Vikings lose pair at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Cornell College on Saturday.

The Rams took the opener 7-1 and won the nightcap 11-4.

In the opener, Lawrence was limited to five hits by Haley Harmon, who struck 11 and didn't walk a batter over seven innings. No one had more than one hit for the Vikings, but Maria Reiter picked up a double to drive in Amanda Karnatz with Lawrence's lone run.

Emilia Jackson pitched the first five innings and took the loss for Lawrence (5-13, 2-2 MWC).

In the second game, Cornell broke the game open late by scoring three times in the fifth and four times in the sixth. Jana Froehle went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs for the Rams (13-7, 3-1).

Sofie Pedersen went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the nightcap for the Vikings, and Karnatz and Jackson both had doubles.

Katlyn Little went six innings to get the win, and Madeline MacLean tossed the first five innings for Lawrence and took the loss.
