Waltham, Massachusetts-- Lawrence University Fencing teams traveled to Brandeis University last weekend to compete in the annual Carla-Mae Richards Invitational, turning in a series of strong performances highlighted by key squad victories and standout individual results.
The meet opened with a dramatic first-round win for the Viking men. Junior Damien Feliciano clinched the match against host Brandeis, taking the final epee bout 5-4 in overtime to secure a tight 14-13 victory over the Judges. The men continued their momentum with wins over Drew University (15-12) and Wheaton College (20-7) later in the day, while the Viking women earned an impressive 17-10 triumph over Haverford.
Two squads emerged as the dominant units of the invitational for Lawrence. The women's epee squad posted victories over Haverford, Wellesley, and Brandeis, showcasing depth and consistency across all rounds. On the men's side, the saber squad delivered a standout performance with squad wins against Brandeis, Penn State, Haverford, Wheaton, and Drew, one of the most complete saber outings of the season.
Individually, Reya Farlam, a first-year women's epee fencer from Great Britain, delivered the top performance of the weekend, finishing with a perfect 9-0 record. She was followed by senior Canadian saber fencer Jordan Diacos, who posted a strong 12-3 mark, and second-year Argentinian saber fencer Cristobal Pérez Fourcade, who turned in an impressive 11-4 performance.
The Vikings now return home to complete winter training camp through December 12 before heading back on the road for the Decicco Duals at Notre Dame on January 24–25.
