APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University fencing coach
Eric Momberg has been named United States Fencing Coaches Association Division III Men's Team Coach of the Year.
The Lawrence men's team put together a fine season as the Vikings finished third at the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships. Both men's saber and men's foil finished second at the league meet.
Momberg, who also was named CCFC Men's Team Coach of the Year, had 12 fencers named to the all-conference team.Â
Lawrence also qualified 12 men's fencers for the NCAA Midwest Regional, and that ranks as the most regional qualifiers in program history.
Cristobal Perez Fourcade had a team-best fourth-place finish in saber at the regional championships. From that group of a dozen regional competitors, Lawrence's Perez Fourcade,
Thomas Craley and
Eli Freyre de Andrade qualified for the NCAA Championships. The three qualifiers for the national championships is the most in Lawrence history.
In dual matches during the season against a mix of varsity and club competition, the Lawrence men posted a 24-14 record.
