Men's sprint medley relay races to title, breaks school record

    MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Lawrence University men's sprint medley relay team raced to the title at the Midwest Conference Championships on Friday and broke the school record in the process.
    Lawrence's team of Brendan Cross, Henry Buehrer, Alex Luckett and Zach Meyer raced to victory in 3:36.18 at the Huff Center. That time broke the school record of 3:36.36 set back in 2005 by Adrell Bullock, Nate Semenak, Kyle Hewitt and Kolade Agbaje-Williams. Lawrence's team edged Grinnell College for the title as the Pioneers finished second in 3:36.43. 
    Lawrence's top individual finisher on the men's side was Tristan Zook, who took fourth in the long jump at 21 feet, 8 inches. Teammate Leo Hagberg was eighth with a leap of 21-3.5. 
    Lawrence also had two runners place in the 5,000 meters. Finn Lee grabbed fifth place in 15:39.37 and Ryan Cassiday was seventh in 16:02.20. 
    Two pole vaulters also placed for the Vikings. Werner Norrbom was fifth at 9-10 and Reuben Keuler took seventh in 7-10.5.
    Lawrence's 4x200 relay team of Zook, Cross, Marcus Jackson and Nick Lubin took eighth in 1:34.90.
    Mila Westra led the way for the Lawrence women as she earned all-conference honors in the mile. Westra raced to third place in 5:14.57. Lawrence's other top individual finisher was Cristyn Oliver, who took sixth in the 5,000 in 18:38.97.
    The women's sprint medley relay team of Gaby Skorczewski, Morgan Cross, Ella Fajardo-Wilde and Faith Onukaogu raced to fifth place in 4:23.56. The 4x200 relay team of Skorczewski, Maddy Fowler, Anna Vanden Acker and Irene Yank placed eighth in 1:54.07.
    The Lawrence women are in sixth place with 14 points, and Grinnell leads with 55. The Lawrence men are sixth with 29 points, and Ripon College is first with 60.
    The championships have another full day of competition on Saturday.
