Oliver dominates field to win league title in 5,000

Lawrence's Cristyn Oliver crosses the finish line to win the 5,000 meters Saturday in the Midwest Conference Championships at Whiting Field.
    APPLETON, Wis. -- In her final Midwest Conference Championships, Cristyn Oliver left no doubt about who was going win her final event.
    The senior dominated the field in the women's 5,000 meters Saturday at Whiting Field to win her second career outdoor title in the event. 
    Oliver, who has six conference track titles to her credit, grabbed the title in the 5,000 with a time of 17:51.18 to win by more than 12 seconds. Lawrence's Edythmae Frodl was fifth in 18:33.33.
    Irene Yank earned all-conference honors in the triple jump as two Vikings place in the top four. Yank was second with a leap of 35 feet, 0.5 inches, and Anna Vanden Acker posted a collegiate-best jump of 33-5.25 to finish fourth. Yank also took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.60 seconds.
    Riley Winebrenner raced to all-conference honors in the 3,000 steeplechase. Winebrenner took third in 11:15.12. 
    Gaby Skorczewski placed in a pair of individual events on the day. Skorczewski took fourth place in the 400 with a time of 1:00.11, and she raced to seventh place in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.27.
    Lawrence placed two athletes in the women's 800. Rookie Mila Westra was fourth in 2:16.35, and Faith Onukaogu took eighth in 2:24.06.
    The 4x400 relay team of Westra, Onukaogu, Skorczewski and Clara Lyford ran to fifth place in 4:12.41. Lawrence's 4x100 relay team of Yank, Vanden Acker, Morgan Cross and Ella Fajardo-Wilde took eighth in 51.79 seconds.
    Lawrence's other placewinner in a field event was Natalee Kragie, who took seventh in the high jump by clearing 4-9.5.
    Lawrence took sixth in the team standings with 76 points. Illinois College won the title with 139 points.
    On the men's side, Leo Hagberg earned all-conference honors in the triple jump. Hagberg leaped to third place with a distance of 45-3.5. 
    Lawrence placed two athletes in the men's steeplechase. Max Reemtsma grabbed fourth place in 9:52.85, and Nick Hansen raced to seventh in 10:04.59.
    In the men's 5,000, Finn Lee grabbed sixth place with a time of 15:26.20, and teammate Ryan Cassiday was right on his heels in seventh in 15:28.35. The other individual placewinner for the Lawrence men was Zach Meyer, who took fourth in the 800 in 1:57.11.
    The 4x100 relay team of Hagberg, Brendan Cross, Nick Lubin and Tristan Zook placed fifth in 43.91 seconds. The 4x400 relay team of Zook, Meyer, Cross and Alex Luckett took sixth in 3:24.03.
    Lawrence was sixth in the team standings with 57 points. Monmouth College won the title with 135.5.
