Record-Breaking Day Fuels Vikings at Home Invitational

Appleton, Wisconsin — The Lawrence University track & field teams put together a strong performance on their home track Friday at the Viking Invitational, highlighted by a pair of school records, event wins, and a deep group of top finishes across both squads.

On the women's side, Elena Hartung led the charge with a record-breaking run in the 100-meter hurdles, taking second in 15.37 to set a new Lawrence program record. She doubled back with another runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.70), giving the Vikings a big boost in the hurdle events.

Mila Westra controlled the 800 meters from the start, pulling away for the win in 2:18.82, while Laura Henze added a sixth-place finish to round out the group.

In the sprints, Jorja Miller delivered a strong showing with a third-place finish in the 100 meters (13.44) and sixth in the 200 meters (27.62). The 4x100 relay team of Izzy Baumgardt, Miller, Anna Vanden Acker, and Morgan Cross raced to a second-place finish in 52.69.

Gaby Skorczewski added another top performance with a second-place finish in the 400 meters (1:02.02), while Clara Lyford came through with a fourth-place finish.

The Vikings were especially sharp in the throws, led by Greta Vianden, who won the hammer throw with a mark of 42.20 meters. Alease McLain backed that up with a second-place finish (39.00m), and Mackenzie Schuh added a fifth-place mark. Ryleigh Truchon also stepped up in the discus with a fourth-place finish (35.16m), while McLain added a fifth-place effort.

In the jumps, Jacqui Malm cleared 1.45m to take second in the high jump, and Ashlee Long followed with a third-place finish (1.40m). Morgan Cross added a third-place finish in the long jump (4.36m).

On the men's side, Zach Meyer delivered a statement performance in the 1500 meters, winning the race in 3:58.46 to break the Lawrence school record. Finn Lee pushed the pace right behind him for a second-place finish (3:59.08), while Nick Hansen added a fourth-place result.

Max Reemtsma added another win for the Vikings, taking the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:59.82, with Reuben Keuler finishing fourth.

The distance group stayed strong in the 5000 meters, where Leigham Alexander placed second (17:29.70), Francis Alexander took third (17:48.77), and Wiez Wiesner added a fourth-place finish.

In the sprints, Benjamin Baldwin led the way with a second-place finish in the 100 meters (11.56), followed by Nick Lubin in third (11.59). The 4x100 relay team of Lubin, Baldwin, Cannon Smithers, and Brendan Cross added another runner-up finish in 44.29. Cannon Smithers added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters (54.67), while Brendan Cross took second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.75).

In the field, Brady Dilworth led the way with a win in the javelin (52.46m). Jack McLaughlin added a strong second-place finish in the hammer throw (49.26m), while Connor Skarsten placed fifth and also added a fourth-place finish in the discus (40.02m) to round out the day for the Vikings.
