Mount Vernon, Iowa – The Lawrence University men's track and field team closed out the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday with a conference title, multiple all-conference performances, and its best conference finish since the 2004-05 season.
First-year two-sport standout Brady Dilworth delivered one of the biggest moments of the championship weekend for Lawrence, winning the Midwest Conference title in the javelin with a throw of 51.77 meters to earn conference champion honors. Jack McLaughlin added a runner-up finish in the hammer throw at 54.69 meters, Connor Skarsten placed fourth in the discus at 42.14 meters, and Werner Norrbom finished fifth in the pole vault at 3.65 meters.Â
The Vikings also turned in huge performances on the track, led by Nick Hansen, who broke the school record for the second time during the championship weekend with a runner-up finish in the men's 1500 meters at 3:53.36. Zach Meyer joined Hansen near the front of the race with a third-place finish in 3:53.53 as Lawrence delivered one of the top performances of the meet in the event.Â
Meyer added another podium finish later in the day in the men's 800 meters, placing third overall in 1:55.81. Max Reemtsma also earned all-conference honors in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a runner-up finish in 9:41.39.Â
Finn Lee continued his strong championship weekend with an all-conference performance in the men's 10,000 meters, placing third in 32:54.13. Leo Hagberg also earned all-conference honors in the triple jump with a leap of 13.00 meters, while Peyton Muller added another podium finish for the Vikings by clearing 1.86 meters in the high jump.Â
The Vikings also turned in a seventh-place finish in the 4x100 relay as Parker Wittmayer, Benjamin Baldwin, Cannon Smithers, and Brendan Cross crossed in 44.02.Â
Lawrence wrapped up the championship weekend with a conference champion, another school record from Hansen, and one of the strongest team finishes the program has produced in more than two decades.
