APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University rookie goaltender
Nolan Mahaffey was chosen as one of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's 3 Stars of the Week.
Mahaffey (Grove City, Pa.) earned the honor after posting a victory in Lawrence's 2-1 win over MSOE this past Saturday at the Appleton Ice Center.
The first-year player remained unbeaten on the season at 2-0 after stopping 29 shots against the Raiders. Mahaffey made 11 saves in the opening period, 12 in the second and six in third. He shut out the Raiders on the power play as MSOE went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.Â
On the season, Mahaffey improved his save percentage to .933 and lowered his goals against average to 2.00. Mahaffey picked up his first collegiate victory at Northland College on the season's opening weekend.
This is the first season the NCHA has selected the 3 Stars of the Week. This replaces the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week selections.
Lawrence returns to play this weekend when the Vikings host Aurora University at the Appleton Ice Center on Friday and Saturday.
