APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's cross country team were underdogs heading into Saturday's Midwest Conference Championships at Reid Golf Course, but the Vikings made favored Cornell College earn its victory.
  Cornell won the team title with 43 points, and Lawrence took second with 55.
  "We made it pretty tight," Lawrence coach
Jason Fast said. "After the first loop, it was anyone's race."
  Lawrence had six runners finish in the top 20 to earn All-Midwest Conference honors.Â
  Cornell star Isaac vanWestrienen raced to the individual title with a time of 24:15.81 over the 8,000-meter course.Â

Finn Lee led the Lawrence contingent by finishing third in 25:02.42. Lawrence rookie
Nick Hansen took seventh 25:35.88 to earn Newcomer of the Year honors for the Vikings for the second consecutive year.

Ryan Cassiday was next for the Vikings as he took 13th in 26:12.19, and
Zach Meyer was close behind in 15th in 26:22.03.
Caleb Hardy completed the scoring for Lawrence as he took 17th in 26:24.52.Â

Sam Brewer grabbed the last all-conference spot for Lawrence by finishing 20th in 26:29.82.Â
