Yank takes two seconds to pace Vikings at MWC Championships

Lawrence's contingent of All-Midwest Conference performers from the indoor championships.
    MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Irene Yank grabbed a pair of second-place finishes Saturday to lead the Lawrence University track and field teams at the Midwest Conference Championships at the Huff Center.
    Yank earned the first of her two all-conference honors by taking a close second in the triple jump as she leaped to a distance of 33 feet, 4 inches. Yank was just two inches shy of the winning jump of Monmouth College's Maddie Rusk. Yank was one of three Vikings to place in the triple jump as Anna Vanden Acker took seventh place at 31-7.5, and Ashlee Long finished eighth at 30-8.5.
    Yank also raced to second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.87 seconds. Lawrence's Maddy Fowler took fourth place in 10.43 seconds.
    Led by Yank, the Vikings finished sixth in the team standings with 63 points. Illinois College won the women's team title with 137 points.
    Lawrence's other women's all-conference finisher on the day was rookie Mila Westra. She raced to third place in the 800 meters in 2:19.92. Lawrence's Faith Onukaogu grabbed seventh place in 2:26.20.
    Natalee Kragie leaped to fourth place in the high jump with a height of 4-9. Lawrence placed two women in the pole vault as Alice Gorinshteyn took seventh at 7-8.5 and Fowler was eighth at 7-2.5.
    Gaby Skorczewski ran to fifth place in the 400 in 1:02.40, and Cristyn Oliver took eighth place in the 3,000 in 10:44.35. Lawrence's 4x400 relay team of Skorczewski, Westra, Onukaogu and Laura Henze raced to fifth place in 4:13.71.
    On the men's side, Lawrence's distance medley relay team was edged for the title by just over a second. Lawrence's team of Nick Hansen, Marcus Jackson, Alex Luckett and Ryan Cassiday took second in 10:39.43, and Cornell College was first in 10:38.33.
    Zach Meyer picked up another all-conference honor as he placed third in the 800 in 1:56.99. Leo Hagberg also grabbed all-conference honors in the triple jump with a leap of 43-8.
    Finn Lee was the other top individual finisher for the Vikings as he finished fifth in the 3,000 in 8:46.79. 
    Lawrence's 4x400 relay team of Jackson, Luckett, Meyer and Tristan Zook took sixth in 3:29.18.
    Lawrence finished seventh in the team standings with 56 points, and Cornell won the team title with 120.
