MADISON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's tennis team had two flights advance to the semifinals and won six consolation titles at the Midwest Conference Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
  Top singles player
Andrew Larson reached the championship semifinals and played an epic match. Larson started the tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Illinois College's Tejas Zala in the quarterfinals. He then took the opening set of the semifinals 6-3 from Lake Forest College's George Ciuca. Cuica then took the second set 6-2 and won the match by winning a 6-4 decision in the third set.
  Lawrence won consolation titles at Nos. 2 through 6 singles.Â

Benjamin Hoppe dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Cornell College's Zach Ong in the No. 2 quarterfinals. Hoppe bounced back to top Ripon College's Austin Stevens 8-5 in the consolation final.
  Cornell's Drew Campbell topped
Gabriel Garcia 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals at No. 3, but Garcia came back to win the consolation final. Garcia downed Ripon's Corey Mooney 8-5 in the final.Â
Owen Horton fell to Illinois College's Andrus Dupre 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinals at No. 4, but then posted an 8-2 win over Ripon's Ty Rondestvedt in the consolation final.
  Cornell's Edwin Holyoake downed
Xander Priest 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals at No. 5, but Priest then won a pair of matches. He topped Spencer Corn of Monmouth College 8-1 in the consolation semifinals before downing Grayson Dupre of Illinois College 8-4 in the final. Lawrence's
Will Phillips waged a tight battle with Illinois College's Titus Ashford in the quarterfinals at No. 6, and Ashford pulled out a 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-4 win. Phillips then routed Ripon's Ryan Richter 8-0 in the consolation final.
  Garcia and Phillips opened play at No. 3 doubles by knocking off Cornell 8-6 in the quarterfinals. Their run ended with an 8-1 setback to eventual champion Grinnell College in the semifinals.
  The No. 1 doubles team of Larson and Hoppe dropped a tight 8-6 decision in the quarterfinals before winning a pair of matches. Larson and Hoppe topped Monmouth 8-4 in the consolation semifinals and posted an 8-4 win over Ripon in the consolation final. The No. 2 doubles team of Priest and Horton fell 8-1 in the quarterfinals but bounced back to beat Monmouth 8-4 in the consolation semifinals. Ripon won a tight 8-7 decision, winning the tiebreaker 7-5, against Priest and Horton in the consolation final.
