APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University men's tennis team secured a 5-2 victory over Martin Luther College at the Fox Cities Racquet Club, using depth throughout the lineup to claim the dual.

The Vikings opened the afternoon by earning the doubles point with wins in two of three flights. At No. 1 doubles, Benjamin Hoppe and Gabriel Garcia delivered a 6-4 victory over Johannes Boorman and Eli Stern. Owen Horton and Pablo Silveira matched that score at No. 3 doubles, defeating Abe Schlomer and Silas Hilmer 6-4 to give Lawrence the early edge. Martin Luther's doubles point came at No. 2, where Gideon Heins and Isaiah Scharf defeated W.W. Phillips and David Rothman 6-3.

In singles play, Lawrence captured four matches to secure the team win.

Hoppe controlled the top flight with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Boorman at No. 1 singles. W.W. Phillips added a steady 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 against Heins. At No. 5, Will Lewis turned in a strong performance in a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Schlomer. Jonathan Muska rounded out Lawrence's singles wins with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Alexander Wrobel at No. 6.

The most competitive matches of the afternoon came in the middle of the lineup. At No. 2 singles, Gabriel Garcia battled through a tight three-set contest before falling 5-7, 6-0, 8-10 in a match tiebreak to Stern. At No. 4, Xander Priest was edged in another close match, dropping a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-6 decision to Scharf.
