APPLETON, Wis. -- Five Lawrence University softball players have been chosen for the Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Communicators.
  Lawrence's Mary's Boyle,
Mattigan Haller,
Laney Martens,
Kourtney Mercer and
Khayla Santiago were all chosen.
  To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
  Boyle (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius), a junior catcher/infielder, is an English literature major with a minor in psychology. Boyle has compiled a 3.77 cumulative grade point average. Boyle hit .213 on the season with a double, six runs scored and one run batted in.
    Haller (Wausau, Wis./East), a sophomore catcher/outfielder, is a two-time All-Midwest Conference selection. A biochemistry and Spanish major, Haller has a 3.81 grade point average. On the season, Haller hit .316 with four doubles, a team-best six triples, 10 runs batted in and a team-high 25 runs scored. She also swiped a team-best 12 bases.
  Martens (Snowmass Village, Colo./Aspen), a junior outfielder, is a biology major with a 3.64 grade point average. Martens, also a hockey standout for the Vikings, hit .222 on the season.
  Mercer (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights), a sophomore pitcher/first baseman, has a 3.91 grade point average and is a biology major. Mercer hit .222 on the season and drove in eight runs. She picked up her first pitching victory at Lawrence with a win over Oberlin College.
  Santiago (Morton Grove, Ill./Maine East), a sophomore outfielder, is a neuroscience major with a 3.81 grade point average. Santiago hit .200 on the season with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
