Valentine earns MWC Player of the Week honor

APPLETON, Wis. -- Nathan Valentine's debut with the Lawrence University men's basketball team was a successful one as he grabbed Midwest Conference Player of the Week honors.
Valentine (Geneva, Ill./Geneva), a junior guard, led the Vikings to a split of its two games at the Oberlin College Tip-Off Tournament.
A transfer in his first season with the Vikings, Valentine poured in 25 points in a 79-74 victory over Clarkson University this past Saturday. He went 10-for-14 from the floor, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, and added five assists and two rebounds. In a 79-68 loss to Oberlin on Friday, Valentine scored 13 points and added four assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals.
For the weekend, Valentine averaged 19 points and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor, including 53.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Valentine is the first Lawrence men's player to be selected as the Player of the Week since Brad Sendell earned the last of his three selections during the 2021-22 season on Feb. 21, 2022.
Lawrence (1-1) returns to action on Wednesday when the Vikings host St. Norbert College at 7 p.m. at Alexander Gymnasium.
