DETROIT, Mich. -- The Lawrence University fencing teams placed three fencers in the top eight on Sunday at the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships at the Matthaei Center.
  Jayna Davis and
Jack Kropp both placed sixth, and
Eli Freyre de Andrade took eighth.Â
  Davis, a sophomore, grabbed sixth place in women's saber. Davis went 3-2 in the opening round of the pool bouts. She then went 5-0 during the second round of pool competition to advance to the elimination bouts, which consist of eight fencers. Davis lost a tight 15-12 decision to Kira Erikson of Northwestern in the quarterfinals. Davis finished with an 8-3 record on the day.Â
  Kropp, a first-year fencer, took sixth place in foil and came within a whisker of reaching the semifinals. Kropp went 4-1 in the first round of pool competition and went 4-1 again in the second round of pool bouts. In the quarterfinal match, Kropp was edged 15-14 by Ohio State's Nowell Gibson. Kropp posted an 8-3 record for the day.
  Freyre de Andrade, a sophomore who won the league's saber title in 2024, started with a 2-3 mark in the first round of pool bouts. Freyre de Andrade then went 3-3 in the next round of pool competition to advance to the elimination bouts. He dropped a 15-8 decision to Zeyad Nofal of Wayne State in the quarterfinals and finished 5-7 on the day.
  Freyre de Andrade's saber teammates all finished in the top 15.
Cristobal Perez Fourcade was ninth with a 5-6 record, and
Clarence Murzyn was 10th with a 6-5 mark.
Donovin Brown took 11th at 4-7,
Jordan Diacos was 13th at 5-7 and
Alan Rodriguez was 15th at 2-4.
  In men's foil,
Mateo Wilkins led the way by placing ninth at 5-5, and
Will Martin was 10th at 5-6.
Vinicius Alonso de Paula took 13th at 3-8, and
Thomas Craley was 14th at 4-7.
Eli Levitas-Goren was 20th,
Oliver Reece finished 24th and Iris Pierce was 25th.

Dominick Vaccaro led the other Lawrence fencers in men's epee by taking 14th with a 4-6 mark.
Archer Prochazka was 16th at 2-8, and
Damien Feliciano was 18th at 1-8.
  Miami Kirkwood was next among the women's saber contingent as she placed 19th at 2-4. Sam Seelig was 20th with Lucy Sweetland in 21st and Mahek Rewani in 24th. In women's foil, Hannah Begeja was 21st and Sophia Kelley took 25th. Sophia Lewis placed 28th in women's epee and Eleanor Seelaus was 29th.
