George leads new additions to Lawrence men's basketball staff

APPLETON, Wis. -- Olalekan "Lake" George is the new Lawrence University men's basketball assistant coach, Director of Athletics Jason Imperati announced today.
George is one of three additions to the staff of head coach Casey Korn. Two former players, 2022 Lawrence graduates Brad Sendell and Julian DeGuzman, are moving from the court to the bench for the 2022-23 season.
"We are excited that Olalekan has joined our Lawrence family," Korn said. "Olalekan understands what it means to be a Division III athlete. He had a successful career at Concordia and his passion for the game jumps out. What really stood out about him was his ability to build meaningful relationships. He truly wants to see and help you be the best you can be. He will be an asset to our program."
George, who also serves as Diversity Coordinator for the Department of Athletics, is a native of Milwaukee, Wis., and was a prep basketball star at Milwaukee Lutheran High School. A 2020 graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin, George was a standout player for the Falcons.
"I want to thank Lawrence, Coach Korn and President Laurie Carter for the opportunity to be a part of the coaching staff and the DEI department," George said. "I love the direction of the program under Coach Korn's guidance, and I want to be a part of helping this team win a Midwest Conference title and return to the NCAA Tournament. I am excited to be a part of the DEI staff, and I am looking forward to be a part of the new culture of Lawrence University in the future."
George, who has a bachelor's degree in sports entertainment business, was a multi-year starter at Concordia. George played in 91 games for the Falcons and had his best season as a senior when he averaged 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.
Sendell joins the coaching staff after a stellar three-year playing career at Lawrence. The Pacific Grove, Calif., native was the 2022 Midwest Conference Player of the Year and broke the program's career scoring record with 1,605 points. A three-time All-Midwest Conference selection, Sendell was chosen for the D3hoops.com and National Association of Basketball Coaches all-region teams in 2022. Sendell earned a degree in economics and was National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court and Academic All-Midwest Conference selection.
Sendell averaged 23 points per game in 2021-22 while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor, including 36.3 percent on 3-pointers and 78.4 percent from the foul line. He averaged 4.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as well.
DeGuzman won four letters for the Vikings and brought a tough and gritty presence to the court. A native of Chicago, Ill., DeGuzman played in 87 games for the Vikings and had his best season in 2018-19. During that season, DeGuzman, who earned a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in Spanish, posted career highs for points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.
Lawrence opens its season on Nov. 8 when it travels to UW-Oshkosh.
